  1. Allusion: an indirect or passing reference to some event, person, place, or artistic work, the nature and relevance of which is not explained the writer.

Page: 15 Ann- “The psalm!  The psalm! –She cannot bear to hear the Lord’s name!”

 

2.In medias res:  the Latin phrase meaning into the middle of things, applied to the common technique of story telling by which the beginning the story at some exciting point in the middle of the action.

 

Page: 6 Tituba: “My Betty be hearty soon?”

            Paris:  “Out of here!”

Book Reviews

Life Belts, by Jane Hosie-Bounar

This is an excellent book about the friendship of two teenage girls. It felt really true-to-life and has a very moving ending.
